Sala’s Camp, Maasai Mara
Nestled within the wilder, Southern corner of the Maasai Mara National Reserve is Sala’s Camp, a luxurious camp that combines tradition with comfort. Overlooking the Sand River and Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, Sala’s is in prime position to witness one of nature’s most celebrated events – the Great Migration. After a long day on safari, relax in one of the seven luxury tents and watch river crossings from your private plunge pool before enjoying sundowners by the campfire and a bush dinner beneath the stars.
Location
To reach this secluded part of the Maasai Mara, it’s just a quick 40-minute flight from Nairobi to Keekorok, followed by a half-hour game drive. Sala’s is in a game-rich and bird-filled part of the Maasai Mara, close to the Sand and Keekorok Rivers, putting you in a truly unique position to see the Great Migration first hand from June to September.
Your room
The seven luxury tents at Sala’s are the epitome of understated and intimate luxury, where comfort is key with homely furniture and African art decorating the rooms. Each boasts private plunge pools and hammocks on outdoor decking which overlooks the Sand River or the plains of the Mara. For added romance, The Honeymoon Tent is especially elegant and offers unrivalled privacy.
Why we like it
It is hard to stay somewhere as picturesque as this and not fall in love with it. As well as being beautifully positioned in the Maasai Mara, Sala’s is also heavily involved in conservation efforts with all of its guides being local Maasai people who grew up on the reserves, caring deeply for the wildlife you are there to see. The Camp contributes to data collection and fundraising efforts for Cheetah and Lion Projects, as well as to the conservation of the local rhino populations. By staying at Sala’s, you are helping it keep up its good work.
