Ol Lentille, Laikipia
Located at the highest point of Laikipia in northern Kenya, perched on the flanks of a wooded rock kopje in the heart of a private conservation is Ol Lentille. A collection of four exclusive-use, fully staffed luxury villas, they offer an irresistible home in the bush. Every corner is framed by large bay windows and uninterrupted views over the rugged hills, with private guides on hand to help you explore. How you do that though is where Ol Lentille sets itself apart. Game drives, yes. But also – truly authentic cultural experiences, great hiking areas and quad bikes. It’s a whole new perspective on this stunning region of Kenya.
Location
Dramatic and exclusive, Laikipia is a match made in heaven with the plentiful game of the Maasai Mara. An off the beaten track alternative, there’s a slower pace of life here with numerous activities to enjoy above and beyond your game drives. It’s just a 75-minute drive from Loisaba, but to really appreciate these landscapes, we’d encourage you to fly into either their private airstrip or helipad. Ol Lentille has incredible 360 views in every direction towards Mount Kenya, Ololokwe and The Matthews, this is wild and remote untouched Kenya. The private conservancy is 3 times the size of Manhattan and offers total tranquillity, space and privacy.
Your Room
Each of the four villas of Ol Lentille embodies their own unique sense of style and personality, but are united by flawless service. Families will love spacious Boscia, with its three bedrooms, wrap-around deck and extensive common areas or the two-storey two-bedroom villa Aloe, with cozy lounge and dining room, both boasting a fireplace and plunge pool. Built into the mountainside with a traditional papyrus roof, Acacia is a two-bedroom villa which overlooks a watering hole. For honeymooners, however, it has to be Carissa. Perched atop a rocky outcrop, the round bedroom has spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Its outdoor bathtub sunk into the rocks is a magical spot to enjoy Ol Lentille’s starry skies.
Why we like it
Ol Lentille is so much more than just a stunning destination – it is also one of the foremost community-based conservation properties in Africa offering unparalleled access to Maasai and Samburu culture. “Having fun, doing good” is the motto here with huge emphasis placed on authentic connections. Experiences here serve to educate guests on the positive effects of tourism, rather than act as mere tourist experiences in themselves. Get to know the local children, visit the markets and see conservation in action with a stay at Ol Lentille.
