The Oberoi Marrakech
Stepping into The Oberoi Marrakech has a truly transporting effect. Through its intricate central courtyard, a cypress-lined grand canal draws the eye and leads it all the way into the distance where the snowcapped peaks of the Atlas Mountains bound the horizon. Every inch the ancient palace it was designed in emulation of, yet equally adorned with every modern luxury. This is a space designed to rejuvenate with 84 intensely private rooms, suites and villas, a spa that seemingly floats on water, restaurants that cater to both local and international tastebuds and gardens which delicately scent the air with a fragrant citrus bouquet.
Location
25 minutes from Marrakech Airport and a little under that to the hustle and bustle of Jemaa el Fna and the meandering streets of the Medina, The Oberoi Marrakech just as easily immerses you in the action as it withdraws you from it. Just like the Ochre City itself, the Oberoi represents a delicate interplay between vibrancy and activity and tranquillity and spirituality with invitations to explore coming just as easily in the form of camel rides through the Agafay Desert as they do by helicopters over the Sahara. Should you wish to remain within the property’s mosaiced walls however, you’ll also find tennis, petanque, an indoor swimming pool and a whole host of other activities to keep you entertained.
Your Room
Taking a cue from traditional Moroccan design, the 84 rooms, suites and villas turn inward to face the landscaped gardens and water features, maximising your privacy in the process. Within each, there is private outdoor space, whether that’s the terraces that run the length of the Deluxe Rooms or the inviting pools of the Suites and Villas. Inside, gentle ivory tones are warmed by burnished gold accents and traditional details are applied to a modern setting. Bedrooms possess commanding views you’ll never tire of waking to, whilst bathrooms provide rejuvenation with sleek surrounds and freestanding bathtubs.
Why we like it
Frescoes illuminated by grand chandeliers. Hand-painted traditional zellige tiles. Sculpted wall panels. A gently smouldering fireplace. No detail is too small at The Oberoi Marrakech and each is assuredly as ornate at the last. The design here is flawless, a result of painstaking thought and consideration. But what we love most is the way that the luxury of The Oberoi Marrakech, unmistakable though it may be, draws you in and wraps you in its gilded embrace to leave you, quite remarkably, feeling right at home.
