Wharekauhau Lodge, Palliser Bay

Nestled between the sweeping vistas of the rugged Rimutaka ranges and the endless blue of the Pacific Ocean, the Wharekauhau Lodge is the perfect New Zealand countryside escape. Set amid 3,000 acres of farmland, the Wharekauhau Lodge promises privacy and seclusion. Take a moment to breathe in the crisp clean countryside air as you sit out on your cottage’s courtyard after spending a morning baking in your ultimate country kitchen. No matter how you choose to spend your time at Wharekauhau Lodge; it’ll be a stay that you won’t forget in a hurry.

LOCATION

Hugging the coastline of the small rural region of Wairarapa, the Wharekauhau Lodge is surrounded by nothing but 3,000 acres of handsomely rugged farmland. Overlooking the beautiful Palliser Bay, it seems impossible that New Zealand’s capital is only a 90-minute drive away. Nearby, the vineyards of Martinborough, renowned for its pinot noir, keep the lodge’s wine cellar well stocked.

YOUR ROOM

There are 13 cottage suites to choose from each with their own view over lush pastures, dramatic shorelines and sheep-dotted fields. Here, peace and comfort reign supreme with plush antique furniture, heated marble floors, and over-sized fireplaces. Sumptuous New Zealand wool carpeting gives a nod to the lodge’s sheep farming history and they’ve also thrown in walk-in wardrobes and a day spa for good measure. As if these vast cottages weren’t big enough, they also all have the option of interconnecting with each other, allowing ample room for any number.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Good food, good wine and spectacular scenery—this is country living at its finest and we love the warm, cosy atmosphere that the farm lodge gives without scrimping on luxury. The warm homemade cookies in the kitchen that await your arrival are the icing on an already impressive cake.
