The Thief, Oslo
A modern, high-design boutique in Tjuvholmen, one of Oslo’s most vibrant areas, a stay at The Thief promises to “steal you away from everyday life” – the luxurious amenities, outstanding cuisine and excellent service certainly provide a ready and welcome distraction from the daily grind. Drawing inspiration from contemporary art and design as much as traditional and local influences, The Thief has quickly become a celebrated and popular city hangout.
LOCATION
Located on the Oslo Fjord waterfront in the newly revamped arts-and-culture district of Tjuvholmen, The Thief is a comfortable 15-minute walk from the city centre. Excellent restaurants and nightspots along the canal are within immediate reach, and the fabulous Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art is just next door (to which guests can enjoy unlimited free access). A taxi from the airport takes roughly 45 minutes, and the Airport Express Train runs six times an hour, reaching Oslo Central Station in less than 25 minutes.
YOUR ROOM
According to true Scandinavian hospitality, particular attention to detail is paid to your personal comfort, from the luxurious bedding to the woollen slippers. The in-room gadgetry (e.g. plasma TV, iPod docking system) adds a suitably contemporary touch – the weary traveller will be especially grateful for the Nespresso machine. The décor is equally cutting-edge, blending modern chic with a traditional influence. The hotel’s in-house curator hand-picks art for each individual room, adding to the unique and intimate feel. Every room has a private balcony.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The consistency of diligence and expertise at The Thief – from the resident master mixologist to the carefully curated maps available at reception showcasing the best in local design and architecture, to the regular artist’s talks or live music shows hosted in the achingly trendy hotel bar – delivers an exceptionally comfortable stay. Thoughtful product and design inspirations create a balanced and immersive (rather than overwhelming) visual and physical experience. Small touches – such as the evening ‘turndown’ service, offering complimentary snacks and soothing herbal tea – make a big difference. Tjuvholmen is playing host to one of Scandinavia’s most exciting urban renewal projects, and The Thief is stealing a lot of the attention.
