American Trade Hotel, Panama City

Located right in the heart of Panama City’s historic district, Casco Viejo, the American Trade Hotel, or ATH, is perfectly situated for you to explore the rest of the city. Stylishly designed to incorporate the vibrant history of Panama City and evoke the tropical colonial roots, none of the hotel’s 50 rooms of the ATH will disappoint. Developed in partnership with the city Conservatorio the ATH opened its doors in Autumn 2013 and has since received raging reviews. Enjoy the views from your room, explore the city and chill out to with cocktails at Danilo’s Jazz Club.

LOCATION

A beautifully restored, landmark building, the ATH takes just 10 minutes by car to reach from Albrook Airport and 30 minutes from Tocumen International Airport, which of course we’ll arrange for you. The hotel is located close to all the main sites. You can wonder through the streets of Casco Viejo where you’ll stumble upon Plaza Herrera, San Fransico Church and the Presidential Palace. We recommend visiting the Emerald Museum, where you can’t help but be tempted by the gorgeous emerald jewellery on sale. For a day outside the city, we can whisk you off to Lake Gatun where you’ll take a boat tour, or the more adventurous can go kayaking. Try your hand at fishing, but keep your eyes peeled for the alligators.

YOUR ROOM

The designers have used reclaimed wood and furniture fashioned in local workshops in the restoration of the building to create an authentic colonial feel. All the rooms are airy, with sumptuous king sized beds and 100% Turkish cotton bath robes. For an added dash of luxury Aesop toiletries are waiting in the bathroom. We love the Panorama room, which is right on the top floor, with floor to ceiling windows and 180 degree views of Casco Viejo, Panama City and Panama Bay.

WHY WE LIKE IT

You’re within walking distance of many fantastic restaurants but the ATH has one of the best on offer. Chef Icaza runs the kitchen with a culinary ideology developed through working in top kitchens from north California to New York. Named one of the top 20 chefs in Latin America by Gatopardo magazine, Chef Icaza has an elegantly refined style, taking advantage of fresh, local and seasonal products. It’s a dining experience you shouldn’t miss.
