Islas Secas sits 20 miles off Panama’s Pacific coast in the Gulf of Chiriquí, close to Coiba National Park, a UNESCO-protected marine sanctuary. Islas Secas was built on the belief that a place this ecologically significant comes with a responsibility to protect it. The privately funded Islas Secas Foundation channels resources into conservation across the Gulf of Chiriquí, supporting humpback whale research, mangrove protection, and marine protected area work in the surrounding waters. Guests are drawn into the science directly: logging wildlife discoveries, and helping monitor Panama’s second-largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds. On the operational side, the resort runs on the largest off-grid solar installation in Panama and has pulled more than 900 pounds of ghost nets from surrounding waters.
