Ellerman House, Cape Town
In Cape Town, say you’re staying at Ellerman House and feel the kudos come flooding in. A luxury boutique hotel offering magnificent views of the Atlantic, mouth-watering cuisine and an exceptional wine list, Ellerman House is a byword for arty edge, extreme privacy and high-end luxury.
Location
Cape Town is a superb travel location and one of our favourite African cities for so many reasons. Bordered by picturesque peaks and overlooking Table Bay, Cape Town is surely among the most beautifully located cities in the world. From pristine white-sand beaches to excellent shopping and vineyards that would bring a tear to Bacchus’s unearthly eye; however often we return to South Africa’s ‘Tavern of the Seas’, she always brings something new.
YOUR ROOM
With just 13 wonderfully distinct ensuite rooms and the self-contained Ellerman Villa (which can either accommodate you as a three or five-bedroom abode), luxury, privacy and attention to detail are guaranteed throughout. Every space has its own special character and in no time at all, you’ll find yourself feeling right at home. The spa here has won some serious accolades and we can see why. If the whisper and lull of the breaking Atlantic tide don’t soothe the soul, then one of the spa’s thirty exclusive treatments definitely will.
Why we like it
For us, boutique hotels should offer more than just an eye for design; they need some character. Ellerman House is proud to play canvas to some of South Africa’s finest and most cutting-edge local artwork. Always discerningly selected, you feel as though your window onto the soul of the Cape doesn’t end with the stunning Atlantic balcony views; the sculptures and paintings articulate the feel of the place, adding extra personality and interest to what is anyway a fundamentally fantastic bolthole. Opt for Room Seven and you’ll find yourself bedding down in what was once Lady Ellerman’s art studio. With panoramic views out over the glistening Bantry Bay, we can see exactly where she drew her inspiration from.
Sustainability
South Africa sadly has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. To combat this, Ellerman House supports education through The Click Foundation. With access to technology, young people can be educated more effectively on English literacy. The foundation supports over 50,000 learners around the country to read and gain valuable IT skills. If you would like to get involved and visit one of the centres during your stay, speak to our Travel Experts.
