Sleep in colonial luxury, set on a spice estate, at the fantastically renovated ancestral mansion, The Kandy House. Just outside the bustle of Kandy’s town centre, this hotel is the perfect place for a quiet jungle escape. Relax in the huge bedrooms, or sit outside surrounded by lush tropical forest. No matter what, we’re sure you’ll have no trouble unwinding here.
Just 12 kilometres from Kandy’s centre, The Kandy House is ideally situated just far enough away for peace and quiet, but close enough to easily hit all of Kandy’s best sights. On the eastern hills of the spice estate, you are within walking distance from small rural villages and ancient cave temples, and it’s only a short trip to all of Kandy’s highlights such as the breathtaking botanical gardens with colossal trees and huge orchid collections.
Each of the nine amazing bedrooms takes their name from a variety of Kandyan butterfly, such as the Monkey Puzzle and the Cornelian. No matter which room you stay in, you can collapse into your huge four poster bed draped in mosquito netting and surrounded by plenty of colonial Sri Lankan touches with drapes of silk and cotton. We absolutely love the floor to ceiling windows overlooking The Kandy House’s great courtyard and gardens.
Why we like it
We love the inspired refurbishment of this small boutique hotel that has truly mastered the light, simple colonial feel with polished hardwood floors and authentic antique furniture, while adding just enough contemporary twists to make this our pick of hotels in Kandy. Soak in the infinity pool in the gardens, under the shade of a tree, or sit back with a good book on the wide verandas around the property.
