Ett Hem, Stockholm
Simply ‘the home’ in Swedish, this elegant and cosy townhouse could not be more appropriately named. Designed as a guesthouse rather than a hotel, Ett Hem is redefining the standard in boutique hospitality to deliver a unique and intimate guest experience. From the home-style meal service (no set menus here) to the friendly staff, the attention to detail leaves every guest wishing they could make their stay a permanent one.
LOCATION
Nestled in the upmarket Lärkstaden neighbourhood, a scenic 15-minute walk north of the city centre, Ett Hem is within easy reach of all that the brilliant Swedish capital has to offer – Gamla Stan (The Old Town) and the Vasa Museum are well worth a visit – while still sufficiently secluded from the hustle and bustle. There are plenty of upmarket dining and shopping options nearby. Arlanda airport is just 40km and half an hour’s drive away.
YOUR ROOM
There are 12 cosy and sophisticated rooms, from the comfortable double to the lavish main suite complete with marble bathroom and four-poster bed. Each is individually decorated and finished by celebrated British designer Ilse Crawford, adding to the original and bespoke feel – some have freestanding bathtubs, others fireplaces. Generous finishing touches in all rooms include luxury bathroom products and an iPad for personal use.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Ett Hem is celebrated as one of the most beautiful, comfortable and stylish places in Stockholm – Crawford’s impeccable work on the interior perfectly blends modern with vintage styles, creating a consistent, authentic and (most importantly) homely ambience. The staff are wonderfully attentive without being invasive; guests are actively encouraged to treat the house as if it was their own, from the open-plan kitchen with an open-door fridge policy, to taking the owner’s dogs for a walk or even borrowing their car. Ett Hem truly works as a home away from home.
