Location
At the southern end of Kachemak Bay, Tutka Bay Lodge rests at the head of the bay’s rugged seven-mile fjord. Spread over ten acres, take in the surrounding coastline, with deep fjords, towering mountains, deserted beaches, sprawling green forests and waters flowing and bulging with the tides. The villages of nearby Seldovia and Homer across the bay, are also worth exploring with their art galleries and cultural vibes, while Tutka Bay Lodge is also perfectly located to add some deep-sea salmon and halibut fishing to your trip.
Don’t forget to also check out the adjacent Cooking School at Tukta Bay, where expert local chefs will introduce you to new cuisine and help prepare a three-course meal from one of their eight global menus.
Your room
Tutka Bay Lodge’s six private guest accommodations are designed to reflect the rustic elegance of the Alaskan wilderness, and with wooden construction and enormous, open plan rooms, you’ll be relaxing in comfort and luxury here.
The main lodge, accommodation and the sauna, hot tub and boat house are all connected by a wooden boardwalk, culminating in a large deck where you can sit out with the sounds of nature, and watch the incredible colours of sunsets after a day exploring around the lodge. The deck also doubles as the lodge’s helipad, offering trips to the remote, otherwise unreachable beauty spots of this region.
Why we love it
We love Tutka Bay Lodge’s incredible location, surrounded by the natural phenomenon of Alaska and in the heart of all adventure exploring. Fish for halibut and wild salmon, ocean kayak, hike the unique trails, and tidepool, seeing all the fascinating organisms and creatures that rest on the coastline at low tide. The award-winning cuisine and afternoon tastings really tickle our fancy but we absolutely love the water-taxi ride in from Homer. Only twenty five minutes over the water, but along the way you can spot sea otters, orcas, humpback whales and a plethora of sea birds to reaffirm to you how deep in the heart of nature Tutka Bay Lodge is…that is if you could have forgotten.
