MACq 01, Hobart
So much more than just another stunning hotel, the unique MACq 01 is also a storyteller. Once a shipping shed, now innovatively transformed both inside and out into an exceptional luxury hotel, it promises to take you on a journey. In its state-of-the-art design, it gives a nod to its past with every detail of the modern complex thought out to tell the story of Tasmania. With 114 relaxed luxury rooms, a show-stopping waterfront seafood restaurant dubbed the Old Wharf and the sleek Story Bar, staying at this Hobart hotel will leave you with a few stories of your own.
Location
MACq 01 is ideally located right on the River Derwent, with Hobart airport only a 15-minute drive away. Sitting on Hunter Street and its rows of boutique shops, restaurants and bars and with Salamanca market only a ten minute walk away, you are in prime location to make the most of your Tasmania trip.
Your room
The 114 luxury rooms and suites at MACq 01 are each named after famous Tasmanians and are decorated to resemble their Tassie personalities. Take Ikey Solomon for example, who was said to be the inspiration for Charles Dickens’ character, Fagin. They are a relaxed take on luxury and adopt an industrial-chic minimalism that pairs perfectly with the architectural design. With views of sandstone warehouses or the waterfront and luxurious balconies or terraces, they have everything you could need in a luxury Hobart hangout.
Why we like it
We love how innovative MACq 01 is with its subtle weaving together of modern luxury and Tasmanian culture. The attention to detail is extraordinary with the hotel having taken notes from local islanders during construction in order to craft a storytelling experience true to the people. Head down to the Story Bar and see the old newspaper clippings that adorn the walls and get a real sense of the history of the place.
