El Questro Homestead, The Kimberely
This diamond in the rough (literally 1 million square kms of it) is this boutique hideaway in the heart of the El Questro Wilderness Park, Western Australia. Composed of just six elegant rooms and suites, the Homestead offers a whole array of activities from swimming in the therapeutic Zebedee Springs to sampling the internationally acclaimed cuisine and the pioneering sport of heli-fishing. Of course, the on-site tennis court, warm swimming pool, and spa are always at your disposal too.
Location
Flying into Kununurra (via Darwin) you are just 2 hours by road from the magnificent Homestead. Located at the heart of El Questro, it is perched atop the Chamberlain gorge in truly spectacular fashion.
Your room
The massive Chamberlain gorge rooms, surrounded by lush gardens and ancient baobab trees, are all decked out with chic lounging areas and outdoor stone bathtubs; perfect for letting those stresses and strains melt away under the stars. Inside your comfy bedroom, the décor is an eclectic mix of modern meets rustic Australian. The gorgeous Chamberlain suite extends way out over the gorge and offers panoramic vistas from the bedroom and surrounding verandas.
Why we like it
The truly one-off experience of an open-door helicopter flight to the Amaroo falls, only accessible by air, uncovers swimming holes topped off with a gourmet 5-course picnic in the vast expanse of the middle of nowhere. Our most enduring memory has to be having dinner on the very edge of a cliff, under the stars, while watching the patrolling crocs in the river far below. The personalised minibar stuffed full of your favourite tipples isn’t bad either…
