Solar da Ponte, Tiradentes
Looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of Rio? There’s no better place to recharge your batteries than the Solar da Ponte in the charming village of Tiradentes. Terracotta-tiled colonial buildings contrast against the verdant mountain backdrop of Serra de São José while the peaceful atmosphere of this quaint town will make going home that much more difficult.
Location
Solar da Ponte is a 90-minute flight from Rio de Janeiro meaning it is ideally located for your much needed dose of rest and relaxation. Nestled in southeastern Brazil, the 18th century town of Tiradentes can be reached by car from Belo Horizonte where Pampulha–Carlos Drummond de Andrade Airport is just a short 20-minute drive away. The town may be small and off the beaten path but the culinary scene here is something you can’t miss. So prepare for a gastronomic treat during your stay.
Your Room
Solar da Ponte was one of the first inns otherwise known as a pousada in this endearing town, which for us makes it even more of a special place to stay. All of the 18 apartments are decorated in a simple and elegant way so as not to distract from the beautiful natural surroundings and the intricate colonial buildings of Tiradentes.
Why we like it
We love uncovering hidden gems and while the architectural beauty of Tiradentes is obvious it’s the food here that has caught our attention. Our stomachs have been won over by the delicious local flavours and we’ll definitely be coming back for seconds. You’ll be able to squeeze in a workout in between courses as you get back to nature on one of the hiking trails in the nearby mountains. Throw in the fact that Solar da Ponte is a little oasis of calm and you won’t be able to resist Brazil’s best-kept secret.
