Hillsdale House Inn

Step back in time, where the pace of life was that little bit slower and more considered than it is now.  Start your historical reawakening at The Hillsdale House Inn where set amongst 12 acres of lush, manicured grounds you’ll find a charming, perfectly formed, Italianate mansion.  Since its 1859 conception, the Inn has made use of its grandiose setting, playing host to an illustrious back-catalogue of guests, from princes and prime ministers to King George V of England. Be captivated by the grand gables, 11ft high ceilings and French doors that overlook the estate, or take up residency on the stretching veranda at the front of the inn and recline in the late-afternoon sun in this esteemed setting.

Within the historic town of Annapolis Royal, just a two hour drive from Halifax; The Hillsdale House Inn is centrally located so you can discover the surrounding attractions, be that of the architectural or natural variety. The inn is just minutes from Port Royal – one of the oldest European settlements in the New World, and also a short drive from the Bay of Fundy which features sprawling rock formations and operates some of the highest tides in the world.  It also boasts one hundred billion tonnes ( yes, really) of sea water that flows in and out of the bay twice daily, so is well worth a visit to experience a new wonder of the natural world.

Your room

Forget standard identikit hotel interiors, as all of The Hillsdale House Inn’s rooms feature period antiques and one-of-a-kind furnishings to create an air of relaxed elegance.  The 13 guestrooms are individually designed, each with their own distinct character – be it regal four-poster beds, charming antique sofas or luxurious claw-footed soaker tubs. Though if reading Austen seems too taxing the rooms come complete with flat screen TV’s for a welcome burst of 21st century living.
