A 230-year old warrior fort, transformed into a place of tremendous peace and wellbeing, Alila Fort Bishangarh is a cultural experience in itself. Standing proud atop a mighty granite hillock, with sweeping views across the Rajasthani landscape, it’s less of a hidden gem and more of an architectural masterpiece. Step inside though and experience an overwhelming sense of calm as you rest up in the 57 suites, dine in regal splendour at Amarsar and rejuvenate in the signature Alila Spa.
Three hours’ drive from Delhi and an hour from Jaipur; Alila Fort Bishangarh is the perfect place for weary travellers to rest their heads. Uniquely positioned with commanding views over Rajasthan’s Aravalli Range and its surrounding hills dotted with havelis, villages and temples, Alila is a window onto this breathtaking part of India. Explore the temples, forts and bustling markets of Jaipur before returning to this peaceful oasis.
Beautifully balanced in every regard, the 57 rooms and suites at Alila Fort Bishangarh are oh-so spacious, yet at the same time intimate and cosy, with a decor that is contemporary and elegant, yet features subtle indigenous touches. Luxurious – but never opulent, we loved the huge daybeds set against jharokha windows and the sumptuous bathtubs big enough for two. In rooms as gorgeous as these, you’ll never want to leave.
Why we like it
Luxury hotel or historical fortress? Alila Fort Bishangarh is neither one nor the other – but both. A place where turrets, cellars and secret passages have been turned into bars, lounges and fumoirs; where the spa has been carved out of the granite rocks of the dungeon; where an organic garden, fruit orchard and greenhouse find their place amid ravines; Alila retains its majesty whilst catering to your every whim.
