Jalakara, meaning ‘the source’ in ancient Sanskrit, is just that – a source of rejuvenation in the natural environment. Welcome to paradise, an architecturally stunning retreat on the Andaman Archipelago in India’s beautiful Bay of Bengal. This one of a kind villa-hotel is the best of both worlds – the seclusion and exclusivity of a villa with all the exquisite service of a hotel. Originally an overgrown banana plantation, Jalakara has been transformed by a team of skilled architects into a holistic haven backing onto tropical rainforest. This is eco elegance at its finest. With seven rooms to choose from you can relax and unwind surrounded by pristine jungle.
Paradise awaits you on the heavenly island of Havelock, in the heart of the Andaman Islands. Take a short flight from mainland India to the archipelago’s capital, Port Blair, before zipping off in a boat to your tropical retreat. Located at the island’s centre, you’re never far from a beautiful beach or a bustling market. Hop between the islands on this adventure archipelago, exploring all that their natural environment has to offer. From birdlife and rainforest trails to fishing, you won’t be short of things to do. For dive enthusiasts, Havelock has a well-earned reputation as a world-class experience.
With a mixture of six rooms and suites, and one exclusive and spacious private villa, Jalakara is a secluded spot, perfect for those wanting to forget about the outside world. The open plan bathrooms allow for complete connection with nature. We love the Tower Room, a unique design space that features your very own private roof terrace with breathtaking views over the jungle beneath you. Relax away in your double hammock, as you watch the sun descend over the ocean below you.
Why we like it
This place couldn’t be more idyllic, or romantic. Wake up to the smell of freshly ground coffee and house baked bread that floats through the retreat. After a rejuvenating yoga session on the terrace take a dip to cool off in the Ozone infinity pool. Spend the afternoon exploring nearby islands and breathtaking beaches, spotting an elephant or two as you go, before returning for a therapeutic massage to completely unwind.
