La Sultana, Marrakech
The experience begins the moment you step into the walled courtyard of La Sultana, shutting the busy streets behind you. A carpet lined with beautifully hand-crafted lamps leads you through a grand brass door. From there you will explore a collection of historic Moroccan riads, all presented in unique styles, full of detailed wood-work, ornate archways and meticulously maintained gardens. Rooftop dining, gorgeous pools and a traditional marble-clad Hamman spa ensure the luxury touches aren’t missed.
Location
Take in unique views of the historic Saadian Tombs with your breakfast or enjoy a coffee with the minaret of Moulay Al Yazid Mosque towering above. Royal palaces, tombs and gardens are literally at your doorstep and the mesmerising souks by Jemaa El Fna square are a short walk away – just a few reasons why we think La Sultana offers a prime location to discover all Marrakech has to offer (that and it’s easy access to the airport).
Your room
The tranquility continues on in your room where spacious interiors and traditional design dominate. Detailed décor set the tone in the 28 bedrooms where hand-painted ceramics and centuries-old textiles add to the old-world charm. The bedrooms in each of the riads look into expansive interior courtyards. We love the crystal domes that hover over each of the riads, flooding the courtyards with dramatic lighting and adding a touch of architectural elegance to the rooftop.
Why we like it
When it’s time for a break from the bustling city streets of Marrakech, La Sultana’s vast rooftop is a calming oasis granting panoramic views of the lively city. Besides being a great spot to people-watch, the backdrop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains makes it one of the best places to take in those gorgeous Moroccan sunsets. Here you can enjoy a spa treatment, take an open-air private cooking lesson or even a dip in the cosy rooftop pool – the perfect antidote after a day exploring the city.
