Tanzania & Zanzibar
Chem Chem Lodge
With water comes wildlife and Chem Chem (literally meaning ‘natural spring’) is fortunate enough to have an abundance of both. Safari is taken to new heights as you venture into the African bush on foot to get up close and personal with the Tanzanian wildlife. Too strenuous? Not to worry – the 4×4 safari jeeps are always on hand to whisk you through the dramatic white savannah landscapes in search of game. After a day out exploring the virgin terrain head back to camp (albeit the most opulent camp you may ever encounter) for a private dinner under the canopy of one of the mighty Boab trees that sit beside Lake Manyara.
Location
In between the Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara, this Tanzanian haven is the ideal place for a traditional yet exclusive safari experience including some unbeatable bird watching. After a two hour flight into Arusha from Dar es Salaam, a 90 minute road transfer through the pristine bush will bring you to Chem Chem. Set in an oasis of palm trees with panoramic views of the western part of the Rift Valley, you won’t want to take your eyes off this stunning landscape.
Your room
With just 8 tents in this exclusive lodge, each one offers its own reading room, outdoor shower and wooden deck where you can watch the famous African sunset, glass of wine in hand. The soft natural furnishings of the tents blend perfectly with the natural surroundings, adding to your genuine bush experience.
Why we like it
The best part of our stay had to be the surprise private picnic that was set up in the middle of the bush after our morning game outing. Attention is paid to even the tiniest of details throughout the lodge from the well stocked library to the gourmet fusion served up nightly in the candle lit restaurant.
