Hotel Florblanca Resort is a perfectly mellow and endlessly romantic boutique residence. With the subtle transitions from suite to beach you will feel continuously enveloped in the luxury you come to expect from a Black Tomato recommendation, whilst remaining just inches from the untouched rainforests and pristine beaches you so seek. Costa Rica is also a designated Blue Zone (where people are known to live longer thanks to healthier lifestyles) and Florblanca have evidently sought to ensure you well and truly become a member of this life-enhancing club. With Spa Bambu and the open-air yoga studios at your doorstep, and restaurant Nectar relying solely on fresh, local produce, the busy world can definitely wait.
We love the remoteness of Hotel Florblanca. Naturally this comes at a small cost, so we recommend taking a half hour flight to Tambor – not only does this cut your journey time but it offers spectacular aerial views of Costa Rica just to heighten your excitement and anticipation.
Florblanca is just stone’s throw from Santa Theresa; a small but lively surf town that is yet to feel the force of commercial tourism, demonstrated by the fact chickens still wander around in the road. Expect excellent waves during the day and a buzzing Latin American culture ready to come alive after sunset.
Soothing cream coloured interiors are complemented by ochre, dark green and deep red furnishings: think minimalist but with a splash of Latin American flair. Open-fronted living areas and a liberating outside bathroom mean you’re truly immersed in your rainforest surroundings…Howler monkeys’ distant calls included.
The newly opened Surf House sees you sat right on the beach, with a surfboard ready to face the rolling waves outside your front door. This luxury shack sits alongside Honeymoon House and the ten standard and superior rooms. The honeymoon suite inevitably possesses a couple of extra luxuries, including a Jacuzzi and private beach.
Why we like it
Iguanas, howler monkeys and migrating whales frequently pass by the hotel, illustrating just how close to nature you really are. Picnics and horseback rides along the beach are perfect for loved up couples seeking solace, and game fishing and surfing opportunities are ready and waiting for those seeking thrills in between snoozes in hammocks made for two. Add to this enticing cocktail the Costa Rican coffee body scrub available at Spa Bambu (which is suspended over a waterfall, just to add to the appeal)…prepare to be seduced.
