La Mamounia, Marrakech
Set within sprawling landscape gardens on the South-Western side of Marrakech’s famous medina, La Mamounia is Morocco’s most indulgent stay. Ornate design meets faultless service in this traditional Moroccan palace that caters perfectly to the luxury traveller. From the expansive spa to the international palette of restaurants, this is your idyllic setting to put your feet up after a day of exploring.
Location
A short drive from the airport and you’re greeted by the ever-welcoming doormen at La Mamounia. Djemaa el Fna square is a stroll away where you’ll find the bustle of the souk. Haggle with the locals as you explore the ancient sandstone streets before indulging in the spa at La Mamounia.
Your room
High ceilings welcome you into your suited palace. Opulent red, gold and beige drape the room and frame intricate mosaic finishes while carved doorways give way to marbled bathrooms. Every detail points to the highest calibre – right down to the king-size beds, some of the comfiest we’ve ever slept in. From balconies, views extend out over the gardens, onto the Koutoubia Mosque with Marrakech city rolling into the distance underneath the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.
Why we like it
Dining in Marrakech is always a pleasure and with four different restaurants and bars at La Mamounia, we’d easily never leave. Le Marocain is always an enviable introduction to Moroccan cuisine, filled with hidden nooks that only add to the atmosphere. Elsewhere, drinks at Le Churchill are a must in a testament to one of La Mamounia’s most famous guests.
